    • Demonstrates efficient searching techniques for example using „and‟, „or‟, ‟not‟
    • Demonstrates an understanding of file handling for example, uploading, downloading, sharing and permission setting, for example within Glow or other platforms.
    • Discusses advantages and disadvantages of using technologies in our everyday life.

    Activity

    Touch typing – online resource designed to allow pupils to progress at their own speed. Variety of internet search tasks focusing on the use of effective search terms. Work on setting up appropriate file management for use in school.

    • Demonstrates an understanding of the legal implications and importance of protecting their own and others’ privacy when communicating online
    • Evaluates online presence and identifies safe guards
    • Applies appropriate online safety features when becoming involved with online communities such as online gaming, chat rooms, forums and social media.

    Activity

    Variety of tasks including online quizzes, group discussions, internet research. Pupil leadership opportunity – creating resources for sharing with primary pupils to explain the importance of online safety.

    Unit 3 - Digital Literacy/Computing Science/People in Society, Economy & Business

    • Uses the most appropriate applications and software tools to capture, create and modify text, images, sound, and video to present and collaborate.
    • Understands simple compression and encryption techniques used in computing technology
    • Describes and uses the practical skills (including digital skills) required to contribute to the success of an enterprise activity.

    Activity

    Use of appropriate software to manipulate and edit images. Creation of documents to display a variety of images. Tasks to develop understanding and practical skills in compressing images. Variety of tasks to develop understanding of the importance of a strong brand logo.

    Unit 4 - Computing Science

    • Designs and builds a program using a visual language combining constructs and using multiple variables
    • Interprets a problem statement, and identifies processes and information to create a physical computing and/or software solution
    • Can find and correct errors in program logic.
    • Groups related instructions into named subprograms (in a visual language)
    • Writes code which receives and responds to real world inputs (in a visual language).

    Activity

    Pupils will work through a series of tasks designed to familiarise them with the programming software “Scratch”.  These tasks are designed to build understanding and confidence of the principles of computer software programming.

    Curriculum for Excellence ‘Benchmark’

    • Uses the most appropriate applications and software tools to capture, create and modify text, images, sound, and video to present and collaborate.
    • Searches, edits and manipulates text and numbers using appropriate hardware and software
    • Identifies at least two ethical issues related to business practices, for example, Fairtrade, Credit Unions, food banks, zero hours contracts, recycling and packaging.

    Activity

    Pupils will undertake a variety of word processing tasks in order to further develop skills in creating and editing documents to a high standard. Particular emphasis will be placed on formatting and style of documents through working on newsletters, business letters and business reports. This unit will also incorporate discussion and tasks focussing on the Fairtrade scheme.

    Use of Khan Academy online teaching resource to introduce the use of HTML.
