No Jump, No Job!
Highland Fling Bungee, based at Killiecrankie, offers customers the chance to jump off the first purpose built, permanent bungee jump platform from a bridge in Britain.
On Friday 15th September, 8 Breadalbane Academy pupils jumped too. The school and Murray Trail (owner Highland Fling Bungee) worked together to develop a unique challenge for senior pupils, to encourage them to think about employability skills in general and the specific opportunities for employment within the local adventure sports industry. We have an excellent video of their experience at the bottom of the page!!
Skills for life and work can be gained in almost every experience a person has. In this case – adaptability, working as part of a team, trust, risk management, dealing with people who feel vulnerable and most importantly, social skills and communication. Whether a pupil aspires to be a bungee jumper, surgeon, social worker or banker; the ability to confidently demonstrate these abilities will give them the edge in job market.
Highland Fling Bungee operates a No Jump, No Job policy which is vital to the delivery of the whole customer experience. Pupils were invited to apply for one of two work experience positions combining time on the jumpdeck and in the office. The applications were narrowed down to 8 – 4 pupils did a bungee jump and 4 did the brand new Highland Swing.
Highland Fling Bungee generously offered this amazing opportunity at no cost to the pupils. We are enormously grateful and proud to work in partnership with them – looking forward to doing the whole thing again next year!
The 2 successful pupils, Ed Yearsley and Amy Gilmour will begin their work experience placement on Friday 22nd. We wish them the best of luck.
