Home Economics
Welcome to the Home Economics Department
Breadalbane Academy offers 2 well-appointed rooms for practical cookery and 1 for practical textiles, all of which can be used to delivery theory lessons.
The departments Broad General Education course equips pupils with the knowledge, skills and attributes which they can then further develop to study one of the extensive range of subjects, that we deliver within the Home Economics context. These are:
- National 4 to Advanced Higher Health and Food Technology;
- National 4 to Higher Fashion and Textile Technology;
- National 4 and 5 Practical Cookery;
We work with a large number of local business partners to offer pupils the opportunity to learn within the wider context of the world of work. A visit to Stewart Tower Dairy and RHET help to deliver sustainability education and allow S1 pupils the opportunity to develop a new ice cream flavour which the Dairy then makes for the pupils to sell as part of an enterprise project. The Town House Restaurant supports our S2 Highland Chef competition giving pupils the opportunity to work in the restaurant to prepare and make dishes for a culinary extravaganza. Glen Lyon Roastery have helped to deliver a Barista course to senior pupils in previous years.
We annually take pupils to the Royal Highland Show, where they sample the diverse range of local produce on offer.
We are continually looking to develop our business partnerships to widen the opportunities and experiences for all of our pupils.
