Technology
Welcome to the Technology Department
The Technology faculty is one of the STEM subject departments at Breadalbane Academy and offers two fully equipped, state of the art workshops, a Graphic Design room and an Engineering Science Lab. All of these rooms are purpose build to meet the learning and teaching needs of the three main technology subjects of Design and Manufacture, Engineering Science and Graphic Communication.
We are proud to offer a vast array of courses at National level and through the Broad General Education. In S1 and S2, pupils follow an integrated technology course with an interdisciplinary approach to learning. In S3, pupils can opt to study core classes in Design and Manufacture, Engineering Science and Graphic Communication. All core subjects progress through to National 4 or National 5 in S4. Throughout senior phase, pupils can study any subject at National 4, National 5 or Higher level. Engineering Science is available at Advanced Higher level in S6. In addition, the department offer S4-6 pupils the opportunity to study Automotive Skills at National 4.
The Technology faculty has well established links with a range of partners in order to develop the young work force and allow progression to further / higher education or employment. Some of these links are through former pupils who are returning to share their experience with our current cohort. The department actively encourages participation in national competitions and STEM related activities. Our curriculum is greatly enriched by visiting STEM ambassadors providing workshops, and experiences out with the classroom. To support learning, regular homework is issued and constructive feedback provided. The faculty offers lunchtime study support to all pupils. Continuous formative and summative assessments are used to track and monitor pupil progress. The Technology faculty at Breadalbane Academy, in addition to Maths and Science, are proud to be finalists in the STEM category of the 2018 Scottish Education Awards.
